Veneer Production
How we do it
Veneer production at Eco Wood Processing involves the processing of wood from various timber species found in the region into thin sheets of veneer. West Africa is known for its rich and diverse tropical hardwoods, many of which are suitable for veneering due to their attractive grain patterns, colors, and durability. Some of the commonly used hardwoods for veneer production in West Africa include Sapele, Mahogany, Anigre, and Ayous.
1
Log Selection and Harvesting
Quality veneer starts with the selection of suitable logs. The logs are harvested from sustainably managed forests to ensure the long-term health of the ecosystem.
2
Log Processing
The selected logs are processed into veneer sheets. This is typically done through peeling or slicing the logs using specialized equipment. Peeling involves rotating the log against a blade to produce continuous sheets, while slicing involves cutting the log into individual sheets.
3
Veneer Drying
The freshly cut veneer sheets contain moisture and need to be dried to a specific moisture content. Proper drying is essential to prevent warping or other defects in the veneer.
4
Grading and Sorting
Veneer sheets are graded based on their quality, colour, and grain characteristics. The grading process helps ensure that veneer sheets with similar attributes are used together.
5
Gluing
Veneer sheets are often glued onto a substrate or core material. The choice of adhesive depends on the intended use of the veneered product. Common adhesives include wood glue or resin-based adhesives.
6
Pressing
The veneer and substrate are pressed together under pressure to ensure a strong bond. This process may involve the use of hot presses or cold presses.
7
Trimming and Sanding
Excess veneer is trimmed, and the surface is sanded to achieve a smooth and even finish.
8
Finishing
Depending on the desired appearance and characteristics, the veneered product may undergo additional finishing processes such as staining, varnishing, or applying protective coatings.
9
Quality Control
Throughout the production process, quality control measures are implemented to ensure that the final products meet industry standards and customer specifications.
Our veneers will be customised and cut to your preferred thickness, ranging from 0.5mm to 10mm. We use state-of-the-art peeling machinery and we implement a robust quality management system.
